• Ritual provides something else that we deeply need:

  • a level of witnessing that truly enables us to be seen

Francis Weller, The Wild Edges of Sorrow

  • When life takes us through big transitions...

  • rituals help our souls catch up.

  • ...when we step across the threshold into a grief ritual, it feels right. We enter a borderline state between

  • our individual lives and the unseen world of spirit. This is the terrain of radical change.

  • Throughout history, ritual. is how we navigated our soul journeys

What does initiation, threshold and ritual mean anyway?

This graphic helps to show my understanding of these interconnected experiences. I borrow from Francis Weller and Dr Sarah Kerr’s wonderful writing and ongoing dialogue on ritual to inform my understandings. I also borrow from my own lived experience of these spaces and from what I have witnessed and facilitated with clients.

Through this lens, we can see that Initiation, Threshold and Ritual are connected and relational. I see them as needing each other. We can meet each stage with curiosity and authenticity. Initiation, threshold and ritual all bring their own thing, have their own unknowns and knowns and each stage is part of a bigger picture.

The Sacred Container allows us to bring awareness to these spaces so we can orient ourselves and become the observer for a moment. It is a map of sorts, with room for emergence. Or landmarks for being with the unknown.

The Sacred Container supports us to slow down and lean into the discomfort to learn more. It also supports the understanding that a process is unfolding and while it may be uncomfortable and painful it can be held and witnessed. The collected new understandings and knowns will be more recognised with more clarity and reclaimations and declarations made in the Ritual space.

I meet you where ever you are at with reverence and a presence acknowledge where you have been, what is here now and declarations for what is next.
